Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies: Elon Musk (https://smartreads.co.uk/leader/elon-musk/) recommended this book and said, “it’s worth reading Superintelligence by Bostrom. We need to be super careful with AI. Potentially more dangerous than nukes.”
Superintelligence is a 2014 book by the Swedish philosopher Nick Bostrom from the University of Oxford. It falls under the Popular science genre and argues that if machine brains surpass human brains in general intelligence, then this new superintelligence could replace humans as the dominant lifeform on Earth.
The book ranked #17th on the New York Times list of best selling science books for August 2014. In the same month, business magnate Elon Musk made headlines by agreeing with the book that artificial intelligence is potentially more dangerous than nuclear weapons.
Also the favourite book of Sam Harris (https://smartreads.co.uk/leader/sam-harris/), once he said, “I’ve only recently begun to pay attention to the progress being made in artificial intelligence. The field is advancing faster than most people realise, and we seem to be headed for a precipice of sorts. Reading Bostrom’s book, you come away feeling that there may be no way to build machines that possess true “general intelligence” – that is, the ability to learn new concepts and apply them in unfamiliar contexts – without destroying ourselves in the process. You also get the sense that we will inevitably build such machines, unless we destroy ourselves some other way”.
Enjoy! Reading a book
